Our customer Garay chooses XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel

December 2022

Last month, our Spanish customer Hijos de Juan de Garay S.A. (Garay) has taken a step further with us towards carbon neutrality.

The industrial equipment supplier based in Oñati, Spain, that provides high quality products in three business areas that are cold drawn precision welded steel tubes, tubular components, and brass placed an order for more than 100 tonnes of XCarb® steel. The exact volume is 107,51 tonnes of XCarb® recycled and renewably produced hot rolled coils from our plant of ArcelorMittal Sestao that have been delivered on the 22nd November.

The customer also received an XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel certificate which recognises that the steel has been produced via the electric arc furnace route from scrap steel – with a minimum scrap content of 75% – and with 100% renewable energy.

About XCarb®

The XCarb® initiative brings together all of ArcelorMittal’s reduced-, low-, and zero-carbon products and steelmaking activities. A practical example is the capture of hydrogen-rich waste gases from the steelmaking process. These gases are injected into the blast furnace to reduce the use of coal. The XCarb® green steel certificates are based on real CO2 savings achieved through these practical activities as well as wider initiatives which reduce ArcelorMittal’s carbon footprint and projects aimed at green innovation. The savings are independently assured by DNV GL.
